The Right Skills for CLO Leadership

Posted by CLO Staff on Jul 6, 2017 2:54:48 PM

We sat down with the 2016 CLO of the Year to ask about the attitudes, skills and strategies she thinks are essential to success as a senior learning leader. Here are just a few of the nuggets she shared:

On Change and Technology
Never stop learning or rest on your laurels. Things are changing too rapidly and your “learning capital” can quite literally atrophy. Having an innovative mindset — being curious about doing things differently and willing to embrace technology — can make a tremendous difference in your ability to ready the workforce.

Don’t underestimate the importance of business acumen. To transform the learning function into a business imperative, you have to know what’s important to the business and be able to demonstrate learning’s alignment with objectives and impact on the bottomline.

Building Relationships
Put energy into building relationships and recognizing the importance of working through and with others to achieve greatness. Being consistently curious about what’s important to oth
er people helps you become a trusted adviser and business partner.
